Techvanza - the New Age Festival

As the world battles a global pandemic, the least we can do is spread smiles. A fest blooming with enthusiasm, Techvanza delivered their participants joy amidst the chaos in their daily lives. Team Techvanza managed to make the best out of the situation by letting the ‘new normal’ be a channel for the students to display their skills and love for technology.

The theme of the fest revolved concept that is the meeting point of philosophy and science- ‘Multiverse’. Multiverse suggests the possibility of a parallel or an alternative universe that expands beyond our own and allows the participants to fly as high as they can in terms of exploration.

Techvanza is an intercollegiate fest held for 3 days with a series of flagship events as well as various PR activities, in which 42+ colleges took part from all over India.

Principal Dr.Anju Kapoor gave a very motivational speech and addressed the students as torchbearers of the future. Various faculty members spoke about the enthusiasm and hard work of students to conduct the fest.

The debate is one of the activities that give the students a chance to explore their creative side to convince others with their arguments. ‘Clash of Words’ was an online debate competition chaired by college faculty Mr. Shriram Deshpande, who is a writer and has an exceptional set of communication skills.

The participants were assigned general topics for the debate further allowing them to discuss their stance with their team. Two teams were given a time of 1-minute each to introduce their stance on the given topic, followed by an 8-minute debate round and the last round being the conclusion round.

With great oratory skills and tremendous confidence, the participants created an exemplary impact on each other.

The event ‘Digitized’ brought creativity and technology together in the form of website making. With all the resources being provided, the participants were told to bring just one thing with them- their imagination!

The participants were supposed to design code for a website that would showcase and present the theme ‘Multiverse’. The participants were allotted 30mins to write and submit the final code.

The judge was Mrs. Neha Vora, an ever-guiding light for UPG students, from the BSc.IT faculty. The participants showed the utmost excitement as ‘Digitized’ pushed the participants to embrace their artistic side and spread their inventive wings.

Typeverse was the first event of Day 2. On joining the zoom call, the players met the game hosts. The hosts conveyed the instructions; asking the players to share their screen, open the link, paste it in the chat box, and start typing out the text that was written in front of their screen to play the game. The text in front of them was upside-down! If they didn’t type correctly the live ‘Number of errors’ tracker would beep back at them disapprovingly while upping its count.

Another event of Day 2 was Tech-Invent, an event where the participants could pitch in their creative business ideas. Participants turned up in teams of two and were given a topic for their pitch. All the participants had to prepare a presentation within an hour. All the participants shared their ppts with the judge through screen sharing. The judge of the event was Mr.Karan Shah, who is one of the founders of this digital fest.

The top ten participants were shortlisted for the second round which included an IT Auction. Three companies; TCS, Infosys, and HCL had four branches in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, and Pune. All the bidders had to bid on each company and a branch by typing a word in the chat box. The first participant to type in the chatbox got the chance to bid. The fifth round was a scavenger hunt. The participants were asked to bring objects from their house. They had to write “TZ" in the chatbox after completing it. The first one to complete this got a chance to bid and own the company.

The third day started with ‘Techvanza Stock Exchange’, a virtual stock exchange program, which took place on ‘moneybhai.com’, The players had Rs 1 crore in their portfolio account which was the intra-day trading limit. At 9, when the real market opens, participants started investing this virtual money into shares, commodities, mutual funds, and fixed deposits to earn more profit. At 3, when the real market shut, participants submitted the screenshots of their profit & loss statement, Myspace, and balance sheet statement. They were marked based on their profit and loss.
