PCOS Awareness: An RC-UPG Initiative.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder found in women that often causes infertility. This is something that is not talked about out loud because of the social stigmas present in society. September being the PCOS awareness month, the Rotaract Club of UPG college partnered with the Rotaract Club of Wadala east to organize a webinar to talk about PCOS with Dr. Sheetal Suryawanshi from Pune, who is an accomplished Gynaecologist, Infertologist, Nutritionist, and Endocrine Specialist.

The webinar facilitated the participants to talk about any questions regarding the subject without even a hint of awkwardness. Though the syndrome cannot be cured but only managed, the speaker educated the participants regarding various causes of the same. She also talked about how simple changes in lifestyle in context to eating habits, exercise, avoiding stress and sound sleep can help in the treatment of the syndrome according to the condition of the patient. “It’s very important for women to get tested for PCOS and get treated on time,” said Dr. Sheetal.

PCOS being the most common cause of infertility in Indian women, it’s time that everyone is aware of it and does not feel marginalized as this is completely normal.
