Doctor Who Review

Updated: Jun 23, 2022

In 1963, a time when science fiction wasn't as popular on television, BBC released a show that defined a generation of tv watchers and continues to do so even now. Doctor Who, one of Britain's most popular television shows, lasted 26 seasons in its original run and is currently on it's 12th season in the new era. The impact of this show on popular culture has been immeasurable with audiences around the globe watching this either on online streaming or on

television.

There have been 14 actors who have played The Doctor with varied reception. Tom Baker in the original series and David Tennant in the era have been the most popular and well received actors to portray The Doctor. Currently, Jodie Whittaker, the first woman to take on the iconic role, is in her 3rd season.

The basic premise of the show revolves around The Doctor and their companions traveling across space and time saving cities, worlds, and civilizations from a terror known or unknown. Frequent adversaries are the Daleks, Cybermen, Judoon, and Zygons.

While the show was originally meant for children, it has since evolved to tackle more mature and sometimes even darker themes like war, genocide, PTSD, and weapons of mass destruction. But the show still manages to maintain its light-hearted humour in most episodes, often showing The Doctor to be the curious and joyful traveler they are.

The show is a must watch for science fiction lovers who love quality storytelling. It has been entertaining generations and by all accounts it will continue to do so for a long time. While you can start the show directly from the new era without feeling like you're missing out on anything, it is definitely recommended that you watch the original series if you can get your hands on it.
