When Bond Dies

As the world knows that this was Daniel Craig’s last run as the greatest spy of all time and this film was a perfect homage to the legacy of the GOAT, we begin at the end of ‘Spectre’ and boy, oh boy! What a start it was! Linus Sandgren was at his ‘A’ game while it was shot! The way the camera swirled through the streets of Italy while following a bike was such a masterful shot to witness, but it wasn’t the only one…the film is filled with such shots that will only bring awe to your face.

When we talk about the characters, even this film contained the ‘new Bond’ characteristics of humanism and realism. The supporting cast, Naomi Harris and Ben Wishaw, did their job almost perfectly. Over that the battle of egos between the original bond and the new 007, played by Lashana Lynch, was a brilliant subplot of the film. But…the film also had a few missed darts in terms of writing. To be specific, the character of Ana-Day Armus was badly misutilized… It felt as if she was just present to add a bit of flair to the film through her beauty but it did not help the story progress a lot. The relationship of Bond and Madeleine also wasn’t written with a complete heart, the very old trope of Bond getting betrayed by his loved ones was used again and treatment of the villain in terms of how much the character adds to the story was also barely present. Moreover, Rami Malek’s acting prowess was underused, too.

The direction of the film was also above average. Cary Joji Fukunaga was able to put in a plethora of emotions while also creating the spectacle of a typical Bond film. Even though the beginning of the second half kind of felt slow, he made up for that in the climax, which I’m damn sure nobody would have imagined!

Daniel Craig himself was having a complete roll while putting forth his last Bond performance, the same charm, the same swiftness in the character, and the same control over the situation but with all of that, as usual, he also portrayed the human side of this larger-than-life character. In my opinion, Daniel Craig is the actor who made James Bond films relatable to a normal person. He showed that even the greatest spy of all times is also flawed and proved to all the critics that he was born to be the James Bond.
