Battle Royale 2022:- Saffron wave sweeps through 4 of 5 States

Uttar Pradesh:- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) broke the 35-year old jinx and came back to power, making Yogi Adityanath the only Chief Minister who has won 2 consecutive elections in Uttar Pradesh.

The BJP at the moment of writing this article is leading on 277 seats out of the 403 Vidhan Sabha seats in the state while the Samajwadi Party (SP) is trailing with around 120 seats.

There was no sign of anti-incumbency against Yogi Adityanath, instead Uttar Pradesh witnessed a massive wave of pro-incumbency.

Uttarakhand:- The BJP exceeded expectations in Uttarakhand, proving every exit poll for the state wrong. Leading with 48 seats in the state assembly comprising 70 seats, the BJP is all set to come to power again.

The Congress did better than last time winning 19 seats in total, but not so much to even put a shadow on prospects of BJP forming a government there. Uttarakhand will also see an incumbent Government winning another term with a massive majority.

Goa:- BJP won 3rd consecutive term in Goa. It has established an unbeatable lead in 20 seats out of 40.

The fragmented opposition is struggling to even bring up their numbers. The Congress leads on 11 seats while Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is leading on 2, Mahashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MAG) leading on 2 and Goa Forward Party (GFP) leading on 1. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has been booked out in Goa for a duck.

Punjab:- AAP has swept the Punjab Elections establishing a comfortable lead on 92 seats out of 120. The candidates from AAP have also defeated several big leaders like Bikram Singh Majithia, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Prakash Singh Badal, and even incumbent Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi from both his seats. Congress has managed a meagre 18 seats while the Akali Dal and the BJP have won 3 and 2 seats in Punjab respectively.

Manipur:- BJP, continuing its previous victories across the North-East, has won in Manipur too. BJP has established an easy lead on 23 seats.

National People’s Party (NPEP) has won 7 seats while the Naga People’s Front (NFP) has won 5 seats. Individual candidates have emerged victorious in 9 seats. At the time of writing this article, 13 seats were yet to be counted in Manipur.

Conclusion:- The BJP has retained power with a massive majority in all 4 states that it ruled prior to the election. This election is an approval of the leadership and policies of the BJP in state and centre.

Punjab is a symbol that AAP will emerge victorious on the loss of Congress, wherever the BJP is weak. It is an important crossroad which the BJP has crossed on the way to the 2024 National Elections. Retaining power in 2024 will just be much more simpler now for BJP after their terrific show in Uttar Pradesh.
